I am a clinical psychologist and author in New York State
My private psychotherapy practice is based in Sleepy Hollow, NY, where I see adolescents and adults online and in person. I also offer consultation and supervision to other mental health professionals, give talks and workshops at healthcare and academic institutions, and advise private companies.
In addition to my private practice, I am an associate professor of psychology at Fordham University, where I serve as director of the Fordham Community Mental Health Clinic and associate director of clinical training.
I am the author of Borderline: The Biography of a Personality Disorder, which won the APsA Book Prize, The Gaming Mind: A New Psychology of Videogames and the Power of Play, and the forthcoming Borderline Personality Disorder: A Contemporary Introduction. My writing has appeared in outlets such as Psyche and Salon, as well as various academic books and journals.
I serve on the board of trustees of the Austen Riggs Center, the executive board of the Westchester County Psychological Association, and the editorial board of the journal Psychoanalytic Psychology.
I received my BFA in playwriting from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and my PhD in clinical psychology from The New School for Social Research, completing my internship training at Columbia University Medical Center. I am a recipient of the Scholar Award from the Society for Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Psychology, the University in Exile Fellowship from The New School for Social Research, and the John Golden Playwriting Prize.
